Question

What is MoP?

Programmes and projects have been the focus of organisations’ efforts to manage change for many years. More recently, portfolio management has come to the fore as organisations have become increasingly aware that delivery is only half the battle. Just as important is whether or not the change initiatives are the ‘right’ ones and whether the potential return on investment is achieved.

Portfolios represent the totality of an organisation’s investment (or segment thereof) on changes required to achieve its strategic objectives. Portfolio management is a coordinated collection of strategic processes and decisions that together enable a more effective balance of organisational change and business as usual.

MoP is an acronym of Management of Portfolios. MoP training will help you and your organisation make decisions about implementing the right changes to business as usual. MoP provides a 'bird's eye view' of all change activities, both those in planning and those in delivery. This provides a clear line of sight about what is in the portfolio, what it is costing, what risks are faced, what progress is being made and the impact on your organisation's business as usual operations.

Portfolio Management is concerned with ensuring:

  • the programmes and projects undertaken are the right ones in the context of the organisation’s strategic objectives;
  • successful delivery at a collective level;
  • that benefits realisation is maximised; and
  • that lessons are identified, disseminated and applied in the future.

We offer three MoP courses, each with a range of delivery modes - in-house classroom, self study and eLearning:

Why we are the best value

Our MoP courses cover the breadth and depth of portfolio management. They are presented in a clear, predictable manner with key concepts reinforced and broken down into manageable sections, making them enjoyable courses.

We recognise that studying and sitting exams can be a stressful time on top of the day-to-day commitments of our lives. Therefore the structure and flow of the course provides predictability and confidence that the learner will be able to plan and manage their own learning experience and to grasp key concepts quickly. This results in being confident in your ability to pass the certification exams and to be able to apply what has been learnt to work practice.

And we are able to offer one-on-one tutor support to those taking our Self Study and eLearning courses, so you won't feel isolated, and can clear up any aspects of the course content or its application in your organisation that may be causing concern.

Our courses were developed by Geoff Rankins, our Lead Trainer and Instructional Designer. He has worked in project management for more than 40 years, has set up several portfolio management offices and has been a Practitioner of MoP since 2011 when it was first offered by APMG (it's now offered by Peoplecert). His systematic approach to courseware and eLearning development is recognised by many Accredited Training Organisations and fellow trainers globally. Our Self Study and eLearning courses are based on our classroom courses; the eLearning format allows us to add content to most sessions that increases the value and clarity of what is being covered.
